Drag queens: Are they allowed to be RACIST/TRANSPHOBIC/MISOGYNISTIC etc.?

Short answer: No.

Long answer

Drag and the wider queer culture is entrenched in rebellion, even when not meant to be its controversial. This has given a sense of anti-authority and self-governance to the queer community. The queer community, although based on inclusivity has a tendency to be problematic to intersectional queer people. The trans community and racialized queers are often the first to fight for the greater community’s rights and liberations yet also tragically the first to be antagonized. There’s a clear difference between policing what someone can wear and how they display (or not display) their gender and policing what said queen can and cannot say. The thing about PC culture is that it’s not designed to limit the comedy or performance but instead it’s meant to create a safe space for a diverse crowd. As a collective minority, the queer community both in gender and sexuality will face discrimination but being discriminated against isn’t an excuse to discriminate. As a community our task is to support each other not relay hatred.

The irony of exclusion ranges to the point of it not being uncommon for drag queens to transphobic i.e. WILLAM. Ignorance can’t be the easy excuse, the queer community is very diverse and outspoken, discrimination comes from either malice or purposeful negligence.

There’s many faces of drag, when one is concocting a fantasy why make them hateful.
