The N-Word vs. The People
This is not something we should still be talking about in 2017.
White people you cannot say nigga, nigger, negro, niglet, negroid or any other strange variation of the word. And yes, that applies to singing it in lyrics too.
Black people are tired of having to educate you about the history of the word (yet somehow here I am). We don’t wanna hear your sob stories of how you’re “not racist.” Or how you only say it because your favorite rapper does. Or get into debates about why I can say it and you can’t.
It’s one little thing that you cannot do, and if dogs can learn to ride bikes, I’m sure this shouldn’t be too pressing of a task.
Here's a list of justifications that I'm tired of hearing :
1. You're not racist
2. You have black friends
3. You have a black boyfriend/girlfriend
4. Your [insert family member] is married to a black girl
5. Your other black friends let you say it
6. YOU REALLY REALLY SWEAR YOU’RE NOT RACIST
Basically, any excuse you think you have is invalid. So. Stop. Please.
Now, black people we as a collective have GOT to stop defending “our friends” who use the word. We don’t want to hear you give them a pass or breakdown how they are not racist. It is our duty to check said-friends, if we want them in our lives. So, please refrain from telling us we’re over-reacting or blowing things out of proportion. Just do the right thing, you’re ruining it for all of us.
